Aluminum foil in remote to increase range

Has anyone opened up their Series3 peanut remote and placed aluminum foil inside to increase the range of the remote?

There are lots of sites that talk about opening a remote control and placing a piece of aluminum foil over the IR emitter inside in order to increase the range of the remote. Here are some of the sites that discuss it:
