I received a letter from Comcast yesterday informing me my service HD will go dark in 13 days unless I dump my series 3 because they are migrating all HD to MPEG 4. I think nice of them to give me some advance warning. Only it turns out that Tivo has a page up that clearly states that local stations will remain MPEG 2. That's good news for me because we only use cable for PBS these days and our service is digital basic.
Except that every Comcast rep, including the ones in the special department they've set op to answer questions about the migration says that I'm going to go completely dark and that in fact the local stations will be the first to migrate to MPEG 4.
Somebody doesn't know what they are talking about. I'm betting it's Comcast but does anybody know what the real answer is?
