Tivo HD (652) Status: 11:Evaluation and won't update very old software version...

First let me say "thank you" in general to the Tivo Community. This forum has been very helpful with my various Tivo issues and projects throughout the years. I've usually been able to find/figure out what I need by lots of searching and reading, but not this time...

So anyway, here's my current issue. I found a Tivo HD (652) on Ebay that the seller said they'd found in a storage locker auction. They said they knew nothing about tivo, but that they'd plugged it in and the green light on the front came on. So I contacted the seller and asked if they could give me the Tivo Service Number from the back of the unit, which they did. I called tivo and gave them the TSN and asked them if it had lifetime and they said that it did, so I bought it. When it arrived I first opened it to check it's condition and see if the HD had been upgraded or anything, and to my suprise it looked as if it were brand new... completely clean, no dust at all. So I set it up and hooked it to an antenna and ran guided setup. Once that was done I went to the system information screen and was surprised to find that it said "Tivo Account Status: 11: Evaluation" and that the software version was 8.1.7c2-01-2-652. I then called Tivo again and this time the person that answered said that it was Status 11 and informed me that this is a special status used for promotional tivos and that A) I can't transfer it to my account without the permission of the original account owner and B) if I did transfer it, that it would likely lose its service at which point I would no longer be able to even get service on it because they are no longer activating tivos older than Premieres. I wish the first person I talked to had told me that rather than simply saying that yes, it did have liftime... I probably wouldn't have bought it. So now I have a Tivo that seems to work ok, guide/recording and such, but that isn't on my account so I can't transfer to/from it. I guess it could be worse, but I kinda feel like I got screwed by Tivo giving me bad info... Anyway, that's the first issue...

Issue 2: This Tivo has been hooked up for about 10 days now and the software version is still 8.1.7c2-01-2-652. It's hooked up via ethernet and I've forced a connection several times a day, but no software update. I even hooked it to a phone line and had it call in, no luck. My other tivo hd recived the 11.0n update a few days before I even got this one and I know it's being rolled out, but I would expect it to update to something even if not 11.0n. So today I put my cablecard in it and had it paired figuring that maybe if it was on Comcast that would cause it to get the update, but after numerous connections still nothing.

Any insight/help is greatly appreciated, and I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible to avoid confussion (we'll see how well that worked or if I just made it worse...lol)

P.S. For the mpeg 4 conspiracy theorists out there: On my Tivo that had 11.0m when the mpeg 4 channels started they were just black with no sound, On the one with 8.1.7c2 they are black, but the sound still works... interesting
