Hello All, Thanks for letting me come aboard.

Way back in the days LOL about 7 years ago i used to have a Sony SAT-T60 Tivo that worked With Direct TV only. Well i did upgrade it to 2 500 GB Hard Drives and if i am not Mistaken i got Lifetime On it, Well I am Certain "I PUT" Lifetime on it ;) I was able to do the upgrade myself.

I purchased a new home and got DT HD With an HD Recorder and Put my SAT-T60 Away for about 7 years :( Today Retrieved it and now plan to put it up for sale, I am not sure if SAT-T60 did HD Recording or NoConfirmationtion of this would be appreciated.

Well I got me a Lifetime Series 3 Model with a 1TB HD Upgrade on it Not sure if it was Factory Done or Done by the Seller on the bay who says he is the original Owner of the Tivo.

How quickly should i Transfer the lifetime Service under my name once i get the Series 3 ?

Once iLifetime Llifetime Service under my name, can i Re Transfer the Lifetime Service to a Newer Unit like Premier XL4 for a $199.99 Fee ?

How good and Dependable is the Series 3 Model TCD-652160 ?

Got this Model for about 380.00 Including Shipping, Was that Decent Deal ? or did i over pay ?

I will be using this with OTA and Maybe Fios if i Decide to get Fios. Will it work just fine with either?

Also have a Pioneer Plasma TV anReceivereer Elite Reciever and an HD Antenna from Antenna Direct. What would be the best way to hook up this Tivo ?

Thanks for all your Help and Comments in Advance

TiVo HD booting issue

I have a TiVO HD (TCD652160) that seems to have an issue when booting up. Basically, it had 1 S-card cable card in it for a few months now and all worked good. It was in a basement bedroom that wasn't used much so I didn't worry about it being a single tuner DVR. I then got a hold of another S-card from Comcast and put it in this TiVo HD. It recognized it, I called Comcast and had it paired and all went well with that. It then became a 2-tuner DVR.

Now, when I reboot it with these two S cable cards, it just seems to get hung up on the "Welcome, powering up" screen. However, if I take the 2nd cable card out and reboot it, it boots up just fine (as a single tuner DVR). I can then re-insert the 2nd cable card and it recognizes it again and functions fine as a 2-tuner DVR.

Is this the way it normally works? Or what else could this be? My series 3 OLED doesn't seem to do this, but maybe these models do.

Also, I realize I could probably just get a single M-card and use this instead, but my local Comcast office has apparently been all out of M-cards for 3 different trips I have made to it over the last 3 months. Due to possible billing issues that may get messed up with my account, I don't want to call them and have them mail me an M-card either so I am just gonna stick with these S-cards for now.

So, do these Series 3 TiVo HDs sometimes work like this? Is there maybe something I am not doing correctly here? Just curious.

Rebooting issue

So, my HD+expander has been work great. Unplugged it to change things around and now I have the rebooting issue while watching a recorded show. Seems to me this was an issue a couple of years ago that was solved by a software update. Is this the same thing again or do I really have hardware issues? Anyone else have the same?

OTA and analog cable (TWC)

No digital cable, no cable cards, no TA

I guess this thing really has 4 tuners, 2 in the module that sticks out the back where it says antenna, and 2 in the (appears to be indentical) module that sticks out the back where it says cable.

I can get two different OTA channels at a time with a decent antenna, but when I try for analog cable, only what it calls tuner 1 can get it, tuner 0 gives me the "searching for signal" excuse screen/overlay.

It shows frequency shifting, by about 12 kHz, I guess as it tries to lock in something, or else it jumps frequency by more than that and modulation cycles though analog, QAM256, and QAM64.

I swapped in the power supply from my other "both cable tuners work fine" S3 HD, and it doesn't make any difference.

Naturally the one with the problem is the lifetimed one.

Anybody got any ideas what the problem is?

I've tried an inline attenuator in the co-ax feed, and tried it straight off the main feed before the splitters, and zilch, so I'm tentatively ruling out too hot or not hot enough a signal.

I can get tuner 1 to do that same "seeking" frequency and modulation dance if I disconnect the cable and try to tune a cable channel, so maybe that's a clue.

If I ever issue any terrorist demands, it'll be to force TiVo to release schematics. :D

Does the S3 Have a Power down Button on Remote? Will theS3 Record My shows while iit's Powered Down "Not Unplugged' ?

I Manage to add a POWER Button to my Logitec Harmony One Remote. It does power the S3 On and Off but not sure if it is recording the Shows :o/I haven't shut off the S3 because of the Season Pass I have Scheduled on it with OTA Channels.

If I am not Mistaken I remember my Sony SAT-T60 having a power down button on the remote for both, TV and SAT

Thanks again for all your reposnes and Help :o)

Series 3 HD stuck in "Powering Up..."

Hello,
I have a TiVo Series 3 HD that started getting stuck in "Welcome! Powering up...." mode starting sometime early this morning. I don't know what caused the problem.

I do not have cable cards installed on this Series 3. I have DirecTV for satellite service, so I've been using the TiVo for Netflix, downloading videos from Amazon, etc. I've been doing this for a few years now with no problems.

The obvious symptoms are:

1. The screen message
2. The front panel lights: two vertical rows of light: two red lights on the left, one blue (top) and one red (bottom) lights on the right. There is a yellow TiVo icon between the two vertical rows of lights.
3. I have the TiVo USB/wireless internet adapter. It's dark, as though it's not getting any power. I tried switching from one USB port to the other on the back of the Series 3, but that made no difference.

What I've done so far:

1. Tried resetting by unplugging the Series 3, waiting about 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. After a few seconds, the "Welcome! Powering up...." message returns and stays there. No change from that state for several hours after the last reset.

2. Checked all the connections, including the USB/Wireless LAN adapter, telephone line, all A/V inputs and outputs, connection to external storage (I have the WD Expander driver)

Any ideas what might be causing this, or what I can do about it besides doing the reset via unplugging/plugging?

Thanks for your time,

S3 HD XL Volume Header Corrupt when using MFSLive to clone hard drive

The hard drive on my Tivo HD XL no longer boots past the powering up screen so I ordered a new WD10EURX HD and tried to clone it using MFSLive and 2 USB to SATA cables. When I run the backup command, I get a message that the volume header is corrupt.

Can anyone give me some info on what I need to do? At this point, I don't even care if I can't copy my shows over, I just want to get the Tivo up and running again.

1080P and my Series 3

Quick questions regarding 1080P...

1) Does my Tivo Series 3 produce 1080p?

2) Does charter even broadcast in 1080p?

3) Would I get a better picture with the new Tivo Roamio?

Thank you!

What is my Series 3 HD worth?

I decided to upgrade to the Roamio and get rid of my S3 HD THX. Can anyone tell me what it is worth? I replaced the hard drive, I think to 500gb. Recording time says 70 hours, does that sound right? Thanks.

HD failure on S3 (THX)

Came home yesterday to find my APC H15 off due to a relay failure. Reset the unit and my S3 boots up and all seems to be well... then it rebooted again. Fine... it'll do that sometimes. Once it booted up again, I started playback of a recorded program and it rebooted again, so that ruled out software update (update for S3, ha!). I ran kickstart and ran the drive through the SMART test and got a FAIL 7 on the extended test. Bummer!

Re ran the test again and got the same error. Looks like my 1TB is on the way out. Ordered a WD20EURS from Amazon. Now I have to dig the old PC out of the closet and figure out how to swap the drive again. It's been a while. :)

I was debating whether it not it was worth investing another $100 into the box, but since it has lifetime, I went ahead with the purchase. Wise?

TivoHD - bad drive, mobo, or both?

My TivoHD ate it's original disk drive a couple years ago. I used one of the recommended drives and a program referenced in these forums to rebuild it and everything was fine until a month ago.

It began with the picture sometimes freezing if left on the same channel overnight. A quick channel change would bring everything back to normal. It was random and rare so I thought little about it. A week ago, it began pausing for a fraction of a second during playback but not, I think, live TV. That raised alarm bells, but I didn't have time to deal with it.

Yesterday, I watched some live TV and a few pre-recorded shows then went to bed. This morning I noticed the picture was frozen again. This time, the channel wouldn't change, the Tivo button did nothing. It was COMPLETELY frozen. I pulled the plug, waited 30 seconds, and plugged back in. All I get is "Welcome! Powering up..." and nothing more. Green power light is on, but nothing else.

Is this another drive failure or am I looking at a bad motherboard? I can replace the drive again if that will work, but don't want to go to that trouble and expense if it won't help. Suggestions?

Also, if the existing drive won't boot but the data is otherwise undamaged, can it be retrieve onto a new drive? If so, could someone point me to the instructions for that? Thanks.

S3 and MRV?

I'm pondering the thought of getting a Roamio at some point to replace the S3 as my main DVR. If I move the S3 to another room, will it act as a "Mini" and be able to stream shows from the Roamio DVR or is it too old? My S3 has a lifetime sub so I want to continue to use it, but consolidating recordings on one DVR is desirable.

Freeze question

Does a TIVO access the disk if it's disconnected from the antenna? Here's why I want to know.

I recently purchased my first TIVO - an upgraded Series 3 HD Lifetime. I use it with an outdoor antenna - no cable. The previous owner had no issues with it. But it is freezing on me - won't respond to the remote, and leaves the screen frozen with whatever picture frame was there at the time of the freeze. I must unplug to fix it. It does this on both strong and weak signals.

I would like to isolate the cause. My thought is that it's not the too-weak or too-strong signal cause, or fluctuating power since it fails on all types of signals strengths, and it's on a dedicated UPS plugged directly into the wall.

I'd like to determine if it's the disk. I ran the KickStart code 54 and it passed, then code 57. It still froze afterward. But perhaps the disk still has some issue that these tests didn't detect.

The one condition where it has not failed is when no signal is connected to the input, so that it is always searching for a signal. If it doesn't access the disk when disconnected from the antenna (nothing of value to record, so don't do it), then that would support this conclusion.

Thanks in advance for responding to my initial question, or any other suggestions for finding the root cause.

Can you hook up a MoCa adapter on a TiVoHD and will it speed up MRV from a premier to an HD TiVo a considerable amount?

Lost some channels on Tivo HD - Comcast & Tivo are stumped Ideas?

$

I have lost channels above basic locals (Comedy central, Cartoon Network, Disney, USA) on Comcast cable in Seattle. We noticed that Comedy Central had really deteriorated prior (pixelation) to disappearing altogether. About the time we lost the channels we had been experiencing very slow internet connections. Comcast sent techs out, ID'd a signal issue ("Hot" too of a strong signal). Techs made external adjustments somewhere along the street, replaced our cable modem w/ a DOCSIS 3.0 model, and replaced the line from the pole into our house. We were out of town for a few days right after this. Came back and realized that we had lost the "next tier" channels just above" locals". We're on an economy digital package so don't get any premium (HBO, etc) or HD channels except local HD's, but the comedy cenral, toon network, disney, etc... are digital, but not High Def.

Cable comes into the house, goes to a splitter, one cable goes to the cable modem the other goes directly into ourTivo HD after a run of ~30 ft. Details on our unit:

Series 3 TCD652160
TSN 652-0101-XXXXXXXXX
SW 11.0k-01-2-652
157 Hrs HD, 1367 SD -- 1TB drive
The HD has been in use since 10/2009
1 Motorola Multistream CableCard, replaced 8/4/13, previous card in use since activation

Multiple calls to Comcast to reset the Cable Card, multiple calls to Tivo tech support w/ no resolution. I went to a Comcast svc center and swapped out the Cable Card. Reviewing DVR Diagnostics w/ Tivo tech. support showed signal strength of 100 and SNR of 36 DB on the channels we were receiving. Tivo suggested we try a splitter or an attenuator to bring signal back in spec. Tried a 3, 6, 10 DB attenuator. The 3 brings signal back in spec for strength and SNR. the 6 & 10 seemed to bring strength down too much. Have rebooted the Tivo and re-run guided setup as well.

Last call to Tivo CableCard tech support left of w/ no answer, but presumption that a tuner was broken w/ an offer to get a refurb premiere and transfer of lifetime service for ~$350. Asked the tech why both tuners would work for locals & CNN (44 out here) but not the other channels if "one tuner" was broken. He didn't have an answer for that. Seems curious that this unit has run flawlessly for almost 4 years, then flakes out at the same time Comcast acknowledges a signal issue w/ our service. Coincidence or could the "hot signal" damage the Tivo's components?

Looking for input from the community on best next step:

1) Get Comcast out here to try different CableCards
2) Take Tivo up on the transfer option - see if I can get the transfer to a new Roamio Tivo instead of Premiere
3) Other troubleshooting I haven't done yet ???? - have seen threads that a bad power supply could cause this kind of issue, will look into the capacitors on the PSU in this unit.

can cable cards operate without tivo service?

I recently got a series 3 tivo off craigslist for dirt cheap. Was told it fully works and it appears to boot up fine. I want to possibly $99 lifetime it and just stick it in a guest bedroom that isn't used much.

Now, I also have a spare S-cable card i can (temporarily) use in it and was wondering if it is possible to call comcast & just pair the cable card with this series 3 and then view all channels, but not get the lifetime tivo service just yet. This way, make sure it is indeed fully working. Once all is good, then get the lifetime service.

I realize I would absolutely no TiVo features (guide and mrv) until I subscribe, but I just want to basically view some channels for now.

I also realize there is a 30 day money back with tivo in case there is a problem, but i would rather not have to possibly deal with all that and basically just make sure it is ok on my own.

Is this doable in any way?

I respectfully request any assistance available in isolating my problem before I get on the phone with my cable company tech support.

Problem: Sometime around 8 August, I seem to have lost the ability to tune any cable channels on one of my two TivoHDs. The other one is behaving completely normally. On reboot, the tivo shows the 'acquiring channel list' screen for a while before timing out and going to a black screen on any cable channel with the error banner "The channel is experiencing network difficulties. Contact your cable provider...". This is the state on analog as well as digital channels.

Looking through cable card screens, it looks like it has lost pairing. The pairing screen is headed by "In order to start cable service for this device, please contact your cable provider". I have requested a STB refresh via my cable company's (Charter) website, and also a pairing hit from a live CSR last night, with no change.

I'd really like to know as much as I can about what is going on before I call back. Thank you all for any guidance you can provide:

Data I can find that could conceivably be relevant, taken after a fresh boot

Series 3 replacement drive choices (250GB-2TB)

I need to replace a drive in my (lieftime) Series 3 (OLED). I have a WinMFS image I have used in the past & works great so I am now looking to get it a new hard drive (& then put the image on it). Are these pretty much the best ones to go with:

250GB
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2U4STSOCX8D3T

500GB
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

1TB
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

2TB
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Also, I actually have a spare TiVO HD (TCD652160, not lifetimed) that isn't being used. Can I possibly use this same S3 (OLED) image on the 160GB hard drive? Or does the replacement drive HAVE to be at least 250GB for a Series 3 (OLED)? I thought I remember reading something about this here a while back, but maybe not.

I realize its a lot smaller in terms of capacity, but this Series 3 (OLED) in question is basically being used as a cable box in a lightly used basement rec area and not much is recorded to it anyway. Therefore, maybe I can just recycle the old Series 3 HD (TCD652160) drive instead. Just curious.

Stuck at 11.0g ?

I'm trying to upgrade a drive and had an old image version 11.0g; and I've been waiting for this thing to upgrade. Hoping to get 11.0m but would be happy with 11.0k --

I've forced 3 calls and it's gone overnight yet it still at 11.0g.

is there any magic to this?
